Mary E. Cooley PhD, RN, FAAN is a Nurse Scientist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Phyllis F. Cantor Center, Research in Nursing and Patient Care Services, and an Associate Professor at University of Massachusetts-Boston, College of Nursing and Exercise Sciences. Dr. Cooley’s research interests focus on enhancing symptom management and quality of life during treatment for cancer and enhancing health promotion and behavioral change after the diagnosis of cancer, especially in the context of lung cancer. She recently completed a series of studies funded through the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute and the National Cancer Institute that developed and tested a clinical decision support system to enhance symptom management among cancer patients, caregivers and clinicians. In addition, she recently completed a study that assessed the feasibility and acceptability of, Healthy Directions, a multiple lifestyle risk reduction intervention in adults with lung cancer. Prior to joining Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Cooley worked as an advanced practice nurse and completed her pre-doctoral and post-doctoral studies at University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing, in psychosocial oncology.
