Radhika Sundararajan, MD

Sundararajan1

Assistant Professor
Weil Cornell Medicine

Radhika Sundararajan is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, and a faculty member in Weill Cornell Center for Global Health. She conducts academic research on social and structural factors that shape healthcare-seeking, and which frame access to care in low-resource settings. Specifically, her research seeks to mitigate the impact of HIV-infection through implementation of community-based HIV testing and service delivery in medically pluralistic contexts, where traditional healers are utilized instead of - or concurrently with - biomedical resources. Radhika seeks to develop culturally and structurally tailored strategies that leverage the roles of traditional healers to improve community engagement in the HIV care cascade. This work has direct clinical relevance to worldwide initiatives to end the AIDS epidemic. Her ongoing research projects in southwestern Uganda and northwestern Tanzania are funded by the NIH/NIMH and Weill Cornell Kellen Faculty Fellowship. Radhika received a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, an MD from New York University School of Medicine, and completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital. She works clinically as an Emergency Physician at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City.
