About the Training Certificate in Public Health
The Training Certificate in Public Health provides an introduction to the foundational areas of public health. Students complete required courses in the subject areas of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Management Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Students interested in obtaining the Master of Public Health degree offered by the Bloomberg School may apply all of the course credits completed in the Certificate program to the MPH program upon application and admission, as long as courses were completed within 5 years of matriculation into the MPH program. Educational Objectives
Upon completion of the Training Certificate the individual will be able to:
- Use appropriate statistical methods for critical reading of reports of statistical analysis of public health problems.
- Apply the basic concepts of epidemiology to the study of the patterns of disease and injury applied to public health.
- Determine the role of environmental factors affecting the health of a population.
- Identify the managerial and policy issues associated with the delivery, quality and costs of health care.
- Identify the social, behavioral, and cultural factors related to population health.

Admissions Requirements
Degree Students
Individuals who are currently matriculated in a degree program in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health or other schools at the Johns Hopkins University are not eligible for this certificate program.
Non-Degree Students
Applicants are required to apply to certificate programs using SOPHAS Express.
Eligible Start Terms:

Prerequisites or special requirements
The certificate program is open to non-JHU students with at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university who have completed at least one college level Biology course and one college level Math or Statistics course with a grade of B or above, and a strong overall record of successful academic performance.

Financial Aid Eligibility: U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents enrolled in this certificate program may be eligible to apply for Title IV financial aid. Please contact the JHU Office of Student Enrollment and Account Management (SEAM) for more information.
