Funding
Below are funding opportunities for those applying to GTPCI.
NIH Clinical Scholars Awards (KL2)
The GTPCI became part of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) in 2007. Under the current leadership of Kelly Gebo, MD, MPH, elements in the TL1/T32, KL2/K12 programs and GTPCI have been fully implemented since receiving our award. ICTR is part of the national Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) consortium created by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to accelerate laboratory discoveries into treatments for patients.
The Johns Hopkins KL2 programs will provide career development support for junior faculty physicians from within Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Nominations from mentors or program/divisional directors are due by December 1 of each eligible year for awards to commence July 1 of the same year. Awards will be announced in February.
T32 Institutional Training Grant Support
Since GTPCI has very limited funds to support stipends/tuition required for the program, SOM departments/divisions are expected to identify funding for their students wherever possible. We found that the NIH is enthusiastic about formal training programs for clinical investigators such as ours, and is willing to provide tuition support as well as stipends. We encourage training program directors who desire to provide a GTPCI track for their clinical trainees, to incorporate the GTPCI into training grant applications and renewals, so that stipends and tuition funds can be provided. To our knowledge, all training grant renewals which have incorporated the GTPCI into applications/renewals have been awarded, some with enthusiastic comments on their Summary Statements. Our GTPCI office is happy to provide suitable program descriptions for inclusion in training grants, should you wish to provide this option to your clinical fellows.
K23 and F32 Grant Support
Many successful K23 and F32 applications for career development support by post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty have incorporated GTPCI training as part of the proposed career development plan. Both grants can support full-time training in one of the GTPCI degree programs, if desired. We are pleased to provide program descriptions and curricular outlines for use in the applications. If the applicant has been previously accepted for a GTPCI program, we will provide a letter of support as well.
