Tuition

Tuition is assessed per term by the Office of Student Accounts & Business Services. Please visit the Office of Admissions Tuition and Fees page for detailed information.

MPH Scholarships 

All international and U.S. applicants admitted to the MPH program are automatically considered for scholarship support*. Your application for admission also serves as your scholarship application.

The review process for scholarships is extremely competitive and only the highest-rated applicants receive funding. The review committee considers all aspects of the application, particularly personal statements, academic records, and recommendation letters. Applicants are encouraged to submit all materials early in the cycle.

Matching External Awards

For candidates admitted to the full-time and dual degree formats of the MPH Program, the Program will match scholarships from foundations, government entities, or established philanthropic funding sources as long as Program funds are available. Candidates who are seeking such external funding are encouraged to contact Paul Whong (pwhong@jhu.edu) to request a customized official letter of support.

To process this matching support, the MPH Program requires 1) Official award notification on letterhead from the funding source, 2) Name and email address of the funding representative, and 3) A brief description of the funding entity with a link to information about this funding source.  

Note that personal funding, for example from friends and family, is not eligible for matching.

*The MPH Program only awards merit-based scholarships. If you have questions regarding need-based scholarships, you will need to contact the Office of Financial Aid. 

Funding for Online/Part-Time Students

Bloomberg Fellows

  • This Program is designed for individuals who are currently working in the United States with organizations on the frontlines of addiction, violence, risks to adolescent health, environmental challenges, and obesity in the food system. Recipients must commit to serving a year with the collaborating organization after graduation. This full-tuition scholarship includes a small stipend.
  • Additional Application Required 
  • To be considered for the Bloomberg Fellows Program, you must submit BOTH your BAHI Application and your SOPHAS application by December 1st, 2024.

The Welch Scholarship

  • All new online/ part-time MPH students will receive the Welch Scholarship, significantly reducing tuition costs. Created to celebrate the Bloomberg School's 100th anniversary and honor our founding dean, William Henry Welch, this scholarship is automatically applied each term according to your credit enrollment.

    The Welch Scholarship provides a reduction for up to 80 credits and can be used for online, in-person, or institute courses. However, it only applies to a maximum of 12 credits per term. If you enroll in more than 12 credits in a term or institute, the scholarship will cover the first 12 credits, with any additional credits billed at the standard per-credit tuition rate.

Funding for Full-Time Students

Bloomberg Fellows

Sommer Scholars Program

  • The Sommer Scholars Program is a prestigious scholarship and leadership program for outstanding students with the potential to be the public health heroes of the future. This full-tuition scholarship includes a living stipend. (Total awards: 12)

Peter Salama MPH Tuition Scholarship for Refugees

  • The Master of Public Health program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health, has launched a refugee scholarship program to support one individual who has been displaced due to the conflicts in Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, occupied Palestinian Territories, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Ukraine. The scholarship recipient will receive full tuition while pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate degree at BSPH.

Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows

  • All Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) are considered for a partial tuition scholarship and participate in an enrichment program coordinated with SOURCE (Student Outreach Resource Center). Students partner with community-based organizations; complete practicum projects with local organizations and city and state health departments; and lend their talents and energies to community endeavors. All RPCVs will also be considered for all institutional merit-based scholarships.

Dean's Scholarship

  • All applicants to the full-time format of the MPH program are considered for the Dean's Scholarship, which ranges from $20,000 to $40,000

Fundação Maria Emília/Maria Emília Foundation

  • Brazilian MPH candidates who have been accepted in the 11-month full-time format are eligible to receive this full scholarship awarded jointly by Johns Hopkins and the  Fundação Maria Emília (FME), a private social investor in health and education-related projects based in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.  In addition to being admitted to the MPH, candidates must complete the application process for the Foundation as well.  If you have any questions, please contact Paul Whong at Hopkins or Mariana Barahona at the Foundation.

Pre-doctoral Clinical Research Training Program

  • The Pre-doctoral Clinical Research Training Program provides intensive learning experiences that prepare students for clinical research careers in any discipline, specialty, or subspecialty. The program provides partial tuition and stipend support. Only Johns Hopkins medical students are eligible.

Other Sources of Funding

American Indian Graduate Scholars Program

  • The Center for American Indian Health provides funding and on-site mentorship for Native master’s and doctoral students. Scholarship support is based on the availability of funding and may include support, in full or in part, for tuition, a stipend, books, and tutoring services.
  • Additional Application Required

Federal Aid

  • Options for funding a Bloomberg School education include federal and private loans, the federal work-study program, and need-based scholarships. The Office of Financial Aid offers resources and support to help students explore these and other options.
  • The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer. Borrowers only have to make income-based loan repayments for 10 years and then any remaining balance is forgiven (provided you work in government or non-profit).
  • The National Institutes of Health will repay up to $35,000 in student loans each year for MD, PhD or other post-doctoral students who qualify (you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident).
