About the Master of Bioethics Program

From the ethics of food production to stem cell research to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics is guiding the conversation about some of the most complex moral and policy issues affecting the health and well-being of people worldwide.

Offered in collaboration with the School of Public Health, the Master of Bioethics (MBE) is an innovative, interdisciplinary and cross-divisional graduate program combining approaches from science and technology, the humanities and arts, and public health and medicine to prepare students from diverse backgrounds to investigate and address the bioethics challenges of professional and civic life. Pandemic Response

Through years of experience and scholarship, bioethicists at the Berman Institute have led research to identify the ethical principles that should guide the actions of governments and other institutions in a moment like the COVID-19 crisis.

Standardized Test Scores

Standardized test scores (GRE, MCAT, or LSAT) are optional for this program. The admissions committee will make no assumptions if a standardized test score is omitted from an application, but will require evidence of quantitative/analytical ability through other application components such as academic transcripts and/or supplemental questions. Applications will be reviewed holistically based on all application components.

Tuition and Funding

Applicants wishing to complete the MBE in one year will qualify for a 20 percent tuition scholarship
