Robert J. Abernethy is president of the American Standard Development Company. Mr. Abernethy is a University Trustee, and in addition to his membership on the School’s Health Advisory Board, he serves on the advisory councils for the School of Advanced International Studies, the Peabody Institute and the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. He is a trustee of Loyola Marymount University and Davidson College and a member of the University of California, Los Angeles Chancellor’s Cabinet and the University of California, Los Angeles Arts Board of Visitors. From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Abernethy served on the California State Board of Education and currently serves as a board member of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship. He also serves on the boards of the Pacific Council on International Policy, the Brookings Institution and the Atlantic Council of the United States. From 1986 to 1992, Mr. Abernethy served as a director of the Los Angeles Theatre Center and is currently a board member of the Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities, the Music Center of Los Angeles County and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He also sits on the board of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles and the Westchester Family YMCA and is a director of the William H. Parker Los Angeles Police Foundation. In July 2010, Mr. Abernethy became a member of the US Department of State Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy.
