Resources and Readings

The BMB Diversity and Inclusion Committee has gathered resources for people looking to learn more about issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice.

This list will be updated as we identify new resources and to ensure the list reflects current events.

The current list focuses on addressing systemic racism and anti-Black racism.

Resources List

• The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture’s page provides information, resources, and activities about Being Antiracist, part of their Talking About Race series.
• The JHSPH Student Assembly has created a Google document of Resources for mobilizing change against racial oppression and for self care, including entries specific to the School and the Johns Hopkins community.
• Systemic Racism Explained is a short YouTube video that provides a basic introduction to systemic racism in the U.S.
• Many academics and STEM researchers across the country participated in #ShutDownSTEM #ShutDownAcademia #Strike4BlackLives on June 10, 2020, to spend a day focused on addressing anti-Black racism, rather than normal activities. The ShutDownSTEM website has several tracks of resources, including topics specific to academia and STEM.
• The Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute created a Tools and Resource Guide related to structural and institutional racism for their 2016 Social Determinants of Health Symposium.
• The Guide to Allyship is an open source guide to provide tools to being a more effective ally.
