General External Private Scholarships

The scholarships below are for students based on area of study, career goals, and other general criteria. 

• Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services)
  The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality at the Department of Health and Human Services supports research to improve the quality, effectiveness, accessibility and cost effectiveness of health care.
• Air & Waste Management Association 
  Scholarships support study in air quality, waste management, and environmental management.
• American Water Works Association
  Supports students pursuing training and research in the field of water supply and treatment.
• Citizens Bank Scholarship 
  The scholarship is available to all students currently enrolled at least half-time at a post-secondary institution.
• David A. Winston Health Policy Scholarship 
  The is available for graduates that express and demonstrate commitment to improvement of the U.S. health care system and long-term career interest in the fields of health policy, public health, health administration, and/or health management.
• Funding Opportunities from The National Science Foundation
  The National Science Foundation promotes and advances scientific progress in the U.S. by competitively awarding funding for research and education in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
• Guttmacher’s Cory L. Richards Memorial Scholarship 
  The Cory L. Richards Memorial Scholarship will support emerging leaders in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
• HIMSS Foundation Scholarships
  The foundation awards scholarships to students who are enrolled in an accredited master's programs related to healthcare management systems field.
• Leopold Schepp Foundation
  The foundation awards scholarships to full time students who demonstrate a combination of fine character, academic excellence, financial need, compassion, a commitment to volunteerism, and whose goal will benefit mankind.
• Live Más Scholarship
  Provide scholarships to students who are pursuing higher education, preparing for the workforce, or using their passion to ignite change in the communities and beyond.
• Mensa Education and Research Foundation
  Provides scholarships and awards to MENSA members and non-members.
• Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA)
  Provides research training grants to prepare trainees for careers that will have a significant impact on health-related research needs of the Nation.
• Samvid Scholars 
  By providing merit-based graduate scholarships, Samvid Ventures invests in the graduate education of future leaders who are committed to effecting a positive change in society.
• Tylenol Future Care Scholarship
  The program provides scholarships to students pursuing study in health care including public health.

International Students

International students are urged to pursue all possible funding resources. Below is a listing of some opportunities. Although international students are not eligible for federal financial assistance, they may apply for private loans.

  Advance Africa provides listings of scholarship opportunities available to international students
  for public health study.
• American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF)
  ASF offers opportunities for Scandinavians wishing to study or research in the U.S. and Americans wishing to study or research in Scandinavian.
• American Australia Association
  The Association awards Australian fellowships for advanced study in the U.S.
• Armenian Professional Society
  Formed in 1958 for the advancement of education among Armenians.
• American Association of University Women: International Fellowships
  The program provides scholarships to women pursing full-time graduate or postdoctoral studies
  in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
• Belgian American Educational Foundation
  The foundation supports the exchange of university students, scientists and scholars between the United States and Belgium.
• Canadian Federation of University Women
  Provides fellowships and awards to Canadian women.
• Finlandia Foundation National
  Undergraduate and graduate scholarships are provided to support U.S. or Finnish citizens study    in the United States or in Finland.
• Institute of International Education (IIE)
  Programs include the Fulbright Program, CMB Next Generation Fellowships and Gilman Scholarships. IIE provides many resources and information for international students.
• International Education Financial Aid (IEFA)
  IEFA is a resource for financial aid information for students wishing to study abroad.
• MPOWER Financing Scholarships
  Provides a variety of specific scholarships on a monthly basis to degree seeking international students.
• PEO International Peace Scholarship
  A philanthropic organization that provides assistance in educating women through scholarships, grants, awards, and loans.

Specific Groups

Eligibility for the scholarships below is based on identity, including gender, race, ethnicity, disability, or residence.

• Agency for International Development (USAID): Donald M. Payne International Development Fellowship Program
  The program provides a pathway to the USAID Foreign Service for historically underrepresented groups. It provides support for graduate school, internships, and professional development.
• American Association of University Women: American Fellowships, Career Development Grants, and International Fellowships
  These programs provide support to women who are preparing to advance or change careers or re-enter the workforce in health and medical sciences, pursing full-time graduate or postdoctoral studies or pursuing full-time study to complete dissertations.
• American Association on Health & Disability
  AAHD offers opportunities to full-time graduate students with a disability wishing to purse studies related to public health.
• American College of Healthcare Executives: Albert W. Dent Scholarship
  The program provides scholarships to racially/ethnically diverse students in graduate healthcare management programs.
• American College of Healthcare Executives: Foster G. McGaw Scholarship
  The program provides scholarships to students in graduate healthcare management programs.
• Corris Boyd Scholars Program
  The program provides financial assistance to full-time African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic, or multiracial graduate students.
• American Association of Public Health Dentistry: Herschel S. Horowitz Scholarship
  This scholarship is designated for students who are dentists that have decided to pursue a master's level degree in public health.
• National Federation of the Blind
  Provides scholarships to U.S. citizens who are legally blind.
• National Hispanic Scholarship Fund
  Provides scholarships to students of Hispanic heritage.
• National Hispanic Health Foundation
  The program is open to any current full-time students or entering full-time students in a health professions graduate program.
• National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)
  Provides scholarships to Italian Americans who are members of the NIAF.
• Native Forward Scholarship Fund: Native Forward Scholarship for Service
  Provide financial assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate students pursing degrees full-time in any field of study.
• Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship
  Sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration this scholarship supports Native Hawaiians pursuing health professions degrees to service the unique health needs of Hawaiian communities.
• Office of Navajo Nation Scholarships and Financial Assistance
  Provides grant awards to Navajo students seeking graduate level degrees.
• Organization of American States (OAS): Academic Scholarships Program
  Provides academic scholarships for graduate study or research in a OAS Member State.
• Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans
  The fellowship supports new American immigrants by providing graduate scholarships.
• St. Andrew’s Society of Washington D.C.
  The St. Andrew’s Society of Washington, D.C. grants awards from its Washington Scots Charity and Education Fund Scholarship Program to Scottish American students enrolled in U.S. or Scottish institutions.

Military Scholarships

These scholarships are for active duty service members, veterans, and/or their family members.

• Air Force Association
  The Air Force Association offers scholarship opportunities to Air Force active duty, Reserves, Air National Guards and their spouses and dependents.
• Pat Tillman Foundation
  The Fellowship program supports Tillman Scholars with academic scholarships, a national network, and professional development opportunities.
• U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs: Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
  Fry Scholarship
  These programs provide scholarships to children and spouses of Service members who died in the line of duty on/after September 11, 2001.
• Veterans of Foreign Wars “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship”
  Provides service members and veterans with financial assistance that are needed for their educational goals at an accredited post-secondary institution.

State Scholarships

These scholarships are available to Maryland residents.

• Central Scholarship
  Offers scholarships and interest-free loans to aspiring professionals.
• Maryland Higher Education Commission
  Students may apply for legislative scholarships.
• Other State Funding
  Non-Maryland residents should contact the designated state agency for information on funding opportunities that may be available through their state of residency.
