Executive Vice Dean for Academic Affairs

Dowdy is responsible for advancing the educational excellence of the Bloomberg School. He oversees the Office of Academic Affairs, which ensures excellence and accessibility in educational content; innovates new educational materials to fill the needs of the public health community; uses data to continually improve the School’s educational programs; and develops partnerships to expand the reach of the School’s academic products. These responsibilities include coordination with the Office of Student Affairs, Center for Teaching and Learning, and Schoolwide degree programs. Dowdy is also a professor in Epidemiology, with joint appointments in International Health and the School of Medicine.

Jeanine Parisi, PhD, MA

Vice Dean for Education

Parisi supports the Office of Academic Affairs in providing our students with the highest quality public health education in the world. This includes coordination and improvement of our departmental master’s programs; development of pipeline programs for undergraduates with an interest in public health; and coordination with the IDARE office and CTL to promote inclusive and accessible pedagogy that reflects our diverse communities. Parisi is a teaching professor in Mental Health and focuses her research on the relationship between intellectual and social engagement and cognitive performance in older adults.

Judith Bass, PhD '04, MPH, MIA

Director of PhD Education

Bass is responsible for leading and coordinating Schoolwide PhD-related activities, including working with PhD program directors to coordinate such activities as Schoolwide policy formulation, oral exam procedures, professional development for PhD students, and mentor training (in collaboration with the Provost’s Office). A professor in Mental Health, Bass also serves as vice chair for Education in the Department of Mental Health and leads a T32 training program in Global Mental Health.

Director of Postdoctoral Training

The Bloomberg School provides opportunities for non-degree postdoctoral training in all departments. Culotta is responsible for managing the training opportunities for the 150+ Postdoctoral Fellows that are involved in a wide range of research areas at the School. Culotta is also a professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Chair, Committee on Academic Standards

​​​​As the director of the Office of Academic Integrity, Vernick ensures that faculty and students at the Bloomberg School share joint responsibility for maintaining academic integrity and guaranteeing the highest standards of academic conduct. Vernick also chairs the Committee on Academic Standards (CAS) which governs the content, scheduling, evaluation, and credentialing of academic programs in the School and implements School and University policies related to these matters. CAS oversees and promotes the quality and integrity of all academic programs. Vernick is also the associate chair for educational programs and a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management.
