What We Do in the Department of Health Policy and Management
Our faculty, staff and students are committed to solving the most entrenched public health challenges in the world through evidence-based policy change.
More About HPM
The Department of Health Policy and Management boasts a diverse, interdisciplinary group of scholars—from social scientists and health economists to legal scholars, policy analysts, management scientists and ethicists. Many hold joint appointments in the schools of Medicine, Nursing, Arts and Sciences, and Engineering, and the Department benefits from well-established collaborations with the faculty and students of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, including the School of Medicine.
We strive to identify and implement policy options that protect the health of populations; to develop strategies that improve access, financing, organization, and delivery of preventive and curative health services, particularly as they affect marginalized populations; and to identify strategies for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of health care systems in addressing the most pressing medical and public health problems.
Health Policy and Management is home to over 16 research and practice-based centers and institutes, as well as several affiliated programs and initiatives focused on a range of public health issues.
We foster international collaboration between the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona Spain through the work of the Johns Hopkins-Pompeu Fabra University Public Policy Center.
