Curriculum and Faculty
The Epidemiology of Aging track aims to provide advanced epidemiologic training to those interested in gerontology (the science of aging) and geriatric medicine.
Special emphasis is given to the study of the epidemiology of physical and cognitive functioning, as well as sub-clinical and clinical chronic diseases, particularly as they relate to novel opportunities for primary, secondary, and/or tertiary prevention of physical and cognitive disability and frailty in older adults.
The Curriculum Includes
- Didactic coursework in epidemiology, including specific course work in the epidemiology of aging and gerontology
- Participation in bi-weekly research-in-progress meetings, monthly epidemiology of aging journal clubs, and monthly seminars
- Structured mentoring through the Epidemiology and Biostatistics of Aging Training Program
- Access to epidemiological datasets related to aging and disease
- The option to complete a Gerontology Certificate
Students are required to complete the Department of Epidemiology's core curriculum in addition to the required coursework for their track. Each track curriculum is detailed in the Department’s academic guide. Click here to view the course requirements for the Epidemiology of Aging track.
