SOURCE

SOURCE is the community engagement and service-learning center for the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine.

SOURCE’s mission is to engage the Johns Hopkins University health professional schools and Baltimore communities in mutually beneficial partnerships that promote health and social justice.

We also serve as a channel for student, faculty and staff involvement with community organizations, and local projects.

SOURCE has a particular, but not exclusive, focus on East Baltimore neighborhoods in close proximity to the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus.

Now accepting applications for our Student Governing Board

SOURCE seeks community-minded students to serve on our Student Governing Board in 2024-25! Help us plan outreach events, determine new community-based partners, create content for social media, lead critical reflection sessions, and numerous other opportunities this academic year. Open to students in BSPH (non-MPH), SON (new MEN or doctoral students), and SOM (MS1s only). Apply by Sun, September 15.

BSPH Students: Baltimore Community Practicum open for applications

Our flagship service-learning course, the Baltimore Community Practicum (BCP) is now open for applications. In 2024-2025, this internship-based course offers a mix of In-Person or Hybrid public health practice opportunities in partnership with Baltimore community-based organizations. BCP is a for-credit course offering real-world public health practice experiences for BSPH students across all degree programs. Community Outreach Program Info Session for SON Students on September 18

Join us to learn more about the Community Outreach Program (COP) — a service-learning collaboration among the School of Nursing, SOURCE, and various community-based organizations — where students can acquire invaluable practical experience providing services to populations in Baltimore City. MSN Entry into Nursing students in either their 1st or 3rd semester are eligible to participate in COP during the 2024-2025 academic year.

SOURCE Annual Community Involvement Fair on Wed, September 25

Looking to learn more about volunteering in Baltimore? Join us with your friends, classmates and colleagues for the SOURCE Annual Community Involvement Fair on Wed, September 25 from 12pm – 2:30pm! Every year SOURCE hosts the Community Involvement Fair to introduce students, faculty and staff to partner community-based organizations here in Baltimore. Attend the fair to learn how you can connect with organizations and serve our community!

Federal Work-Study Positions available with SOURCE

SOURCE will be hiring several students to support our programs in 2024-2025. All applicants must be eligible for Federal Work-Study, and enrolled full-time at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health or the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Star of the Month | September 2024

Congratulations to our September Star of the Month, Nyla Chute from the School of Nursing! Through the SON Community Outreach Program, she began her outstanding work in 2023 with the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Baltimore as a HelpLine Volunteer, connecting people with essential mental health resources. She is currently working with Next One Up as a SOURCE Service Scholar throughout 2024-25 on developing key outreach initiatives using social media. Read our interview with Nyla here!
