Research and Practice
Research
Our Department engages in research such as leading international and domestic causes of death, as well as diseases and injuries that disproportionately impact racial, ethnic, and vulnerable communities.
From tackling racial health disparities through the history-making Black Men's Health Project to mitigating rates of anemia among women in Odisha, India, our Department's innovative work spans across the country and the world.
Practice
Our students and faculty work directly with practitioners as part of practicums that will hone their skills in health communication, community-based participatory research, campaign organizing and translating research into action. Through field placements, internships and practicums, students and faculty collaborate with communities and all levels of government to turn cutting-edge research into practice.
Some of our practice partners include governments, policymakers, communities, advocacy organizations, and health care delivery systems.
Centers & Institutes
Our research and practice-based centers and institutes focus on a range of public health issues: HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, cancer, violence, unintentional injury, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, respiratory diseases, emerging infectious diseases, the improvement of quality of life, and tobacco and substance use, and more.
