About the MA in Geography and Environmental Engineering Program
MA students take foundational classes on engineering science and policy to transition from the social sciences or humanities into careers in environmental engineering. Students with this degree go on to further graduate study in environmental engineering and work at the intersection of engineering and the humanities. The MA degree is open to students with undergraduate degrees in social science or the humanities.
Application deadline is June 1. However, we strongly encourage international students to apply no later than May 1 to allow time to secure a visa.

Curriculum Overview
- Complete a minimum of 30 credits, of which at least 15 credits must be from departmental classes, following the individual curriculum plan designed with faculty adviser
- Optional independent research project submitted as a formal essay (typically adds one semester to time-to-degree)

Standardized Test Scores
- The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is optional.
- International students must submit either TOEFL or IELTS scores, or can apply for an English Proficiency Test Waiver.
Prior Degree
- Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree in the social sciences or the humanities

GOOD TO KNOW: The degree is completely flexible: you build your program from the ground up based on your educational background and professional goals
Master of Science in Geography and Environmental Engineering (MS)
DURATION: 9 months to 1.5 years, full-time (onsite)
BEST FOR: Applicants with a background in engineering, math, or science, but not from an ABET-accredited program
BOTTOM LINE: Prepares students for mid-level jobs in government and industry or additional graduate study
GOOD TO KNOW: Two broad concentrations in environmental science and environmental policy
