Description
Grant writing is a critical component of public health research and practice. Are you interested in gaining applied skills for identifying and successfully competing for public health funding opportunities? Do you want to learn secrets of grant writing success from program officials, sponsors, and faculty?
Addresses a critical component of public health research and practice: locating and applying to opportunities for funding to support our work. Explores diverse mechanisms for funding public health-related research and programming. Prepares masters and doctoral students to interact with funding officials, respond to calls for proposals, and write effective proposals.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Identify potential funding sources for public health research and practice; learn strategies for interacting with program officials/representatives
  2. Identify strategies for equity-based, community-driven grant writing
  3. Improve ability to review/critique grant proposals and understand how to evaluate review criteria
  4. Determine common components, acronyms, and language frequently embedded within grant/funding proposals
  5. Gain strategies for effectively crafting successful grant proposals
  6. Create sections of grant proposals corresponding to funding announcements
