Extreme Risk Protection Order
An Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) is a civil court order that temporarily restricts firearm access for an individual who is behaving dangerously or is at high risk of harm to themselves or others. Under Maryland’s ERPO law, physicians, psychologists, clinical social workers, clinical professional counselors, and other health professionals, are eligible to petition for an ERPO. Law enforcement, spouses, cohabitants, individuals with common child, dating/intimate partners, and family members/guardians can also petition for an ERPO.
