Experiences & Accomplishments
My research focuses on tuberculosis (TB) epidemiology. I am interested in community-wide TB transmission and improvement of the diagnosis and treatment of TB. I have conducted clinical trials as well as observational studies on TB in sub-Saharan Africa. I have applied advanced epidemiologic methods to my research including molecular epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, transmission and prediction modeling, geospatial analysis, longitudinal cohort analysis, and health economics.
I am an NIH-funded investigator. From 2023 to 2027, my major focus will be to implement oral swab testing, an innovative diagnostic tool for TB, in a high-burden community setting in Peru. Through this research, I seek to translate epidemiological evidence into real-world implementation by optimizing the use of new TB diagnostic tools to reduce the number of individuals with delayed or missed diagnoses.
My expertise in epidemiologic methods and analyses has led to collaborations to study other infectious diseases in resource-limited settings, such as HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, and Chagas disease.
