Resources
Covers the history, clinical presentation, epidemiological factors, new diagnostic techniques, treatment, and control of tuberculosis. Addresses pathophysiology, clinical presentation, ecology, and effects of HIV/AIDS on developing countries, their populations, and resource utilization. Includes additional topics such as other chronic infections that have global public health importance. Emphasizes integrating policies addressing TB, HIV/AIDS, other infections and poverty in resource-poor settings and how these interactions influence control strategies.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of TB, HIV and the major chronic tropical infections
- Characterize preventive and control policies for these diseases in the tropics
- Explain how integrating public health and development policies can strengthen control of these chronic infections in resource-poor settings
Methods of Assessment
This course is evaluated as follows:
- 20% Participation
- 40% Midterm
- 40% Final Exam
This is an onsite section of the class. The other section (.49) will be taught virtually at the same time. Onsite students will comply with JH Covid19 testing protocols. There will be a break at 10am for 15 minutes and a lunch break will be at 12:15pm for 30 minutes.
