Description
Growing inequalities are now regarded as one of the biggest threats to modern societies, and to human existence globally. In this course, you will learn how to use the concept of health equity to analyze health inequalities, their causes and consequences, and potential solutions.
Explores the conceptual bases of health equity and the underlying social justice and human rights models for defining health equity. Examines potential strategies for promoting health equity. Presents integrative examples applying relevant concepts to analyze causes, consequences, and solutions of health inequities in various contexts.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Define health equity
  2. Use concepts of health equity to examine questions in public health research and practice
  3. Analyze relevant social justice and human rights concepts for purposes of defining health equity in public health research and practice
  4. Use social justice and human rights concepts to critically evaluate issues of health equity in public health programs and policies
