Primary Health Care is not just for villagers, but is also relevant for city dwellers.
Presents emergent public health issues related to the rapid growth of urban population in low- and middle-income countries. Explores the inadequacy of conventional health services for meeting the needs of the urban poor. Presents selected cases studies as examples of primary health care approaches that effectively addressed the public health consequences of rapid urbanization.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the key issues associated with rapid growth of urban population in Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)
- Critically analyze urbanization in LMICs issues and their implications for public health and primary health care (PHC)
- Apply methods for dealing with the emerging and complex issues of urban PHC in LMICs by reviewing successful case studies
- Design a strategy to address health concerns related to rapid urbanization in LMICs
