Description
Strengthens clinical nutrition knowledge and competencies in order to streamline the transition to the clinical practicum at JHBMC. Focuses on gaining fluency in medical terminology and strengthening knowledge in the area of medical testing relevant for assessing and addressing nutrition problems.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Identify the body systems, their components and their functions
  2. Correctly apply medical terms in hypothetical clinical situations
  3. Identify appropriate lab tests for assessing nutritional status as it relates to the functioning of a body system and interpret laboratory test results
  4. Identify, pronounce, and spell medical terms
  5. Communicate to an audience of health professionals regarding a body system, diseases of that systems, laboratory tests and interpretation, and the role of medical nutrition therapy

This course is evaluated as follows:
  • 20% Participation
  • 80% Presentation(s)
