Training Future Leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean
More than 50 tobacco control experts strengthened their leadership skills and capabilities in order to advance tobacco control policy development and implementation at the 2024 Latin America and Caribbean Tobacco Control Leadership Program in Mexico City in late February.
Through five days of discussion and group projects, the participants enhanced their leadership capacity, strengthened their communication skills and collaborated with colleagues from across the region. These programs help empower current and emerging leaders in tobacco control.
Participants had the opportunity to hear opening remarks from Dr. Jorge Carlos Alcocer Varela, Mexico’s Secretary of Health. Sessions throughout the program were led by international experts in tobacco control leadership, policy, communications, research, advocacy and surveillance.
