Understanding the Impact of Economic and Social Conditions on Health

A recent article by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Department of Health Policy and Management assistant professor Catherine Ettman, PhD, published in the JAMA Forum examines the significant influence of economic and social conditions on population and individual health. These conditions, known as social determinants of health (SDOH), include factors like where people live, work, and learn.

The article suggests that developing effective policies to address SDOH is complex, especially when considering non-health policymakers and explores how, by focusing on financial, physical, and social assets, targeted interventions can be designed to enhance health outcomes.
