MMI Professor Sabra Klein Receives Vivian Pinn Award for Visionary Leadership in Women’s Health Research

Sabra Klein, PhD, professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, recently received the 2023 Vivian Pinn Award for Excellence in Women’s Health Research at the VCU Women’s Health Conference. The award recognizes Klein’s 23 years of research in the area of sex differences in viral infections. 

Klein is an immunologist who specializes in uncovering the mechanisms mediating sex differences in infectious disease pathogenesis and response to vaccines. Read more about the Klein laboratory here.

Dr. Vivian Pinn, the first African American woman to chair an academic pathology department in the U.S., was the first full-time director of the Office of Research on Women’s Health at the National Institutes of Health.
