The American Water Works Association’s Board of Directors selected adjunct associate professor, Joseph Jacangelo, PhD '86, as the organization's next president-elect.

A Bloomberg School alumni, Jacangelo specializes in water quality and treatment, water and wastewater disinfection, membrane technology, and public health. "Our department of Environmental Health and Engineering has an amazing legacy of water research and civic outreach. In 1942, our own Abel Wolman, 'The Father Sanitary Engineering' also served as president of the AWWA," recalls Kellogg Schwab, PhD, Abel Wolman Professor in Water and Public Health in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering.

Jacangelo is co-founder of the JHU/Stantec Alliance, a partnership between the Johns Hopkins Water Institute and Stantec, a major engineering firm where he is vice president and director of research. Established in 2013, the JHU/Stantec Alliance was formed as an approach to provide innovative, sustainable solutions to global environmental issues and natural resource limitations by conducting desktop-, bench-, pilot- and demonstration-scale investigations needed to support sustainability science.
