Aaron Haeusler, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Jiou Wang, PhD, was recently awarded a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence grant from the NIH. This highly competitive program is designed to facilitate a timely transition of outstanding postdoctoral researchers from mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions, and provides independent NIH research support that will help these individuals launch competitive, independent research careers. Haeusler’s project is titled “Nucleocentric Molecular Characterization Of C9orf72 NRE-Linked Neurodegeneration,” and is directly relevant to the pathogenesis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and related aging-dependent chronic neurological disorders.
