Bloomberg School Professor to Lead Census Research Division

TImage removed.he Bloomberg School's Thomas A. Louis, PhD, will soon join the U.S. Census Bureau as the new associate director for research and methodology, and chief scientist. Louis, a professor in the Department of Biostatistics, will retain his position at the Bloomberg School while leading the research directorate. 

Previously, Louis headed the biostatistics department at the University of Minnesota. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, and a fellow of both the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Among his many other accomplishments, Louis was also the coordinating editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association and the co-editor of Biometrics. He also served as president of the International Biometric Society and chairman of the AAAS Statistics Section.

In a press release issued by the U.S. Census Bureau, Louis said, "I am excited by the opportunity to build on the momentum and culture that Drs. Groves and Little established to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of statistical design and analysis."

Louis will officially begin his Census position on January 7, 2013.
