The Johns Hopkins University Evidence-Based Practice Center (JHUEPC) has been selected by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to serve as one of 11 centers in the Evidence-Based Practice Center (EPC) IV Program.
“This long-term financial support will enable the Center to further maximize the comprehensive resources of the Johns Hopkins community to bring together collaborative interdisciplinary teams with in-depth clinical and methodologic expertise to tackle challenging issues in all areas of clinical medicine, public health and health care policy,” said Eric B. Bass, MD, MPH, the center’s director. He added, “We are grateful to receive the continued support of the agency.”
Established in 1997 as a charter member of the 14 EPCs currently supported by HHS, the JHUEPC draws on a wide variety of clinical and methodologic experts from the departments, institutes, and centers of the Johns Hopkins schools of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing.
"We are excited to continue work within the EPC Program of AHRQ to promote rigorous synthesis of evidence, to translate evidence into practice and policy and to improve the validity and utility of systematic reviews for clinicians, consumers, policymakers and others making health care decisions," said Karen A. Robinson, MSc, PhD, the Center’s co-director.
The EPC Program plays a vitally important role within the Effective Health Care (EHC) Program at AHRQ. The EHC Program as a whole has a central role in supporting AHRQ’s mission of improving the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. For the next five years, the JHUEPC will be based in the Department of Health Policy and Management of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
