Child sexual abuse is a major concern for parents, policymakers and law enforcement. However, Elizabeth J. Letourneau, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Mental Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School ofPublic Health., says more emphasis and resources should be focused on preventing sexual harm of children from occurring in the first place.
Letourneau recommends parents and caregivers follow a few simple steps to reduce the risk of child sexual abuse and for detecting thewarning signs of potential sexual abuse problems.
