Published

Michael J. Klag, dean of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, is attending the “Leadership Workshop in Critical Public Health Challenges” in Beijing, China, hosted by Peking University School of Public Health and Fudan University School of Public Health. Deans from 30 Chinese schools of public health are participating in the workshop. In addition to comparing and learning about the mission, functions and operations of schools of public health in the two countries, attendees are discussing important public health issues facing China and the United States, such as disaster response, radiation safety, influenza pandemics and health care reform.

Attending the workshop with Dean Klag are Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Jim Yager, Professor Leiyu Shi from the Department of Health Policy and Management, Professor Jon Links from the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, and Associate Professor Andy Pekosz from the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. Ms. Muzi Na, a doctoral student in the Bloomberg School’s Department of International Health and an alumna of the Peking University School of Public Health, also is attending as a student ambassador.

In December 2009, the Bloomberg School hosted a workshop in Baltimore for deans of Chinese schools of public health.
