On November 20, 2010, Johns Hopkins Medicine will host, A Woman’s Journey at the Baltimore Hilton. The annual conference provides women with a day of learning and discussion about recent medical breakthroughs and compelling issues affecting women’s health. This year’s event features 32 seminars presented by Johns Hopkins University physicians and researchers on a variety of subjects including fitness, nutrition and disease prevention. Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health professors Lawrence Appel, MD, MPH, and Benjamin Caballero, MD, PhD, are among this year’s presenters.

Appel, a professor with the Bloomberg School’s Department of Epidemiology, will present “Pressure Cooker,” a seminar highlighting the effects of high blood pressure and ways in which it increases the risk of developing other conditions such as heart disease, stroke and kidney disease. In addition, Appel will define the critical role of salt, diet, drugs and devices in managing blood pressure.

Caballero, a professor with the Bloomberg School’s Department of International Health and the Center for Human Nutrition will give a talk entitled "The Use and Abuse of Supplements.” He will discuss women’s use of dietary supplements to achieve good health and provide a critical review of existing evidence showing both the benefits and pitfalls of supplement use.

The November 20 conference is the first in a series of women’s health conferences that will be held in other cities. For more information or to register to attend an event, please click here.
