JHSPH Students Take Second Place in Annual Case Competition (web article)

A team of students from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Master of Health Administration Program finished second overall in the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Annual Case Competition on February 11. Students Lisa Doshi and Marco Priolo represented the School in the competition. Team captain, Ahmed El Sayed, was unable to make the trip due to the severe blizzard in Baltimore.

“All of the team’s preparation and hard work here in Baltimore paid off. Lisa and Marco competed against twenty-four other university teams from all around the country,” said Ann-Michele Gundlach, EdD, MS, the team’s advisor and an adjunct assistant professor in the Bloomberg School’s Department of Health Policy and Management.

Case competitions allow students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom to solving real-world health care problems. This year’s case scenario concerned a 400-bed hospital with an evaporating bottom line, huge annual operating losses and an exodus of many of its affiliated physicians who were taking their patients elsewhere for care.
