On November 18, communities across the country joined together for the 5th annual National Injury Prevention Day, led by the Injury Free Coalition for Kids. This nationwide effort brings injury prevention advocates together to raise awareness about the burden of injury and violence—and to highlight the critical need for change.

The Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy and Johns Hopkins Children’s Center (JHCC) Pediatric Injury Prevention Program worked together to encourage the community and staff to wear green and encouraged Maryland landmarks to “shine a green light” in recognition of this important day. The Johns Hopkins Hospital Dome, M&T Bank Stadium, Camden Yards, and the Governor's House were among the landmarks lit green in recognition of the day.

The JHCC Pediatric Injury Prevention Program turned to the use of social media to develop an social media campaign that received over 14,000 views. The team presented “Engage, Educate, Prevent: Using Social Media to Promote Safety” at a webinar hosted by the Partnership for a Safer Maryland.
